OER for Concurrent Enrollment

SABIER supports high school students in rural communities in achieving success in their concurrent enrollment college courses.

SABIER provides professional development for teachers in rural school districts who have students enrolled in Southwest Minnesota State University’s (SMSU) College Now concurrent enrollment program.

The program includes stipends and coaching of K12 teachers to become proficient at using SMSU’s learning management system.  Support of the K12 teachers helps their students be more successful in courses that use free openly licensed textbooks (OER), and it enhances the skill set of the teachers. Students who use the university learning management system are able to take full advantage of the concurrent enrollment course and are more likely to be successful. SABIER has initiated this program because previously the K12 teachers have not had access to professional development to support their students in the use of the university’s learning management system.

SABIER uses their experience providing learning management system professional development for K12 and Higher Ed faculty along with their groundbreaking work creating free openly licensed content to support the success of students in their pursuit of a college education.

A version of the OER course used in the professional development program for concurrent enrollment teachers will be available as an OER LMS course in August of 2022. Please let us know if you’d like to see parts of it before completion -email support@sabier.org. Here’s a YouTube video of the presentation we made at the OpenEd21 Virtual Conference.
